Generating a GeoPDF File with the UI

The Publisher for Raster user interface allows you to generate one or more GeoPDF files from a single georeferenced or orthorectified image file format simply by specifying the source image file.

You can specify a destination location for the GeoPDF file(s) or allow Publisher for Raster to generate the GeoPDF file(s) in the folder where the source image file resides.

You can specify file generation parameters for your source image file or allow the software to use the default parameters specific to the source image file as defined in the Preferences dialog box.

You can also use the file generation parameters saved in an .XML configuration file when you generate a GeoPDF file. Note: If the .XML configuration file was created using a prior version of Publisher for Raster, the file generation process accepts the bands that represent the base RGB colors but does not accept any additional color bands.

Defining a new project

At any time you can clear the fields on the Publisher for Raster main window and define a new project by selecting File > New or clicking the New icon on the toolbar.

Loading a project file

Publisher for Raster allows you to generate a GeoPDF file simply by loading a project file and then generating the GeoPDF file. The project file is an .XML configuration file that contains the source image file and all of the file generation parameters.

Locating the project file

Navigate to File > Open or click the Open icon on the toolbar.

In the Open dialog box, navigate to the location of the .XML project file, select it, and click Open. You can also drag the .XML configuration file from its folder to anywhere in the Publisher for Raster UI.

Loading saved file generation parameters and a source image

Publisher for Raster allows you to apply the file generation parameters that are saved in an .XML configuration file to a source image file.

Opening the .XML configuration file

Navigate to File > Open or click the Open icon in the toolbar.

In the Open dialog box, navigate to the location of the .XML configuration file that contains the file generation parameters you want to apply to the source image file. Select the file and click Open.

You can also drag the .XML configuration file from its folder to anywhere in the Publisher for Raster UI.

Selecting a source image and destination file

Unless you are generating a GeoPDF from a project file, you will need to select a source image for your GeoPDF file, as well as a destination for the output file.

Selecting a source image file

In the Source Image File text box, type the location path and file name of the source image file. This is a required field. You can also click the ellipsis button to open the Select Source Image File dialog box through which you can navigate to the location of your image file. Select the file and then click Open.

Selecting a destination file

In the Destination GeoPDF File text box, type the path where you want the GeoPDF file(s) to be created.

You can also click the ellipsis button to open the Select Destination GeoPDF File dialog box through which you can navigate to the location for your output GeoPDF file(s).

Leave the text box empty to allow the file generation process to generate the GeoPDF file(s) in the same location as the source image file.

If your source image file is ADRG file format, the field label changes to Destination GeoPDF Folder. Clicking the ellipsis button opens the Browse For Folder dialog box through which you can navigate to the folder or create a new folder in which the output GeoPDF files are generated.

Modifying default parameters

You can modify any of the default parameters in the Publisher for Raster main window. If you are generating a GeoPDF from a project file or from saved file generation parameters and a source image, you should not need to modify the default parameters, though you can do so after you have loaded the .XML configuration file.

Choosing a color model

In the Image box, choose the color model and band information you want to use when generating the GeoPDF file:

Notes:

• If you do not specify the bands to be included, all of the bands in the source image file are used.
• Image Style does not appear for the ADRG file format.

Choosing a stretch type

In the Stretch Type box, specify whether the file generation process should apply a color stretch to improve color balancing on visible spectrum data when generating the GeoPDF file.

If you choose Histogram, specify the default decimal number of standard deviations to apply in the histogram stretch in the Deviations box.

Notes:

• Stretch does not appear for the ADRG file format.

Choosing compression type

In the Compression Type box, choose the compression method to be used when generating the GeoPDF file: JPEG or Flate.

If you choose JPEG, specify the default value that defines the JPEG image quality in the Quality box.

Notes:

• If your source image file is ADRG file format, the Compression Type list box is disabled and defaults to JPEG.

Choosing print options

In the Print Options box, choose the print option to be used when generating the GeoPDF file:

• Default: The file generation process uses the original image source scale as the output scale and the original image DPI as the output DPI.
• DPI: Specify the image resolution for the GeoPDF.
• Scale: Specify the appropriate output map scale for the GeoPDF.

If your source image file is ADRG file format, choose one of the following from the ADRG Options box:

• Create Combined Coverage Map: The file generation process creates a combined area coverage map.
• Create Overview Map: The file generation process creates an overview map that displays at 1/16 of the original ADRG resolution.
• Generate Subfolders: The file generation process creates the output GeoPDF file(s) in subfolders based on the product name.

In the PDF Layout Style box, choose the label format that you want to display on the output GeoPDF file:

• Format 1 (default): Generates a GeoPDF file where the labels are placed in their traditional places. The filename label displays at the top above the main map at the left margin. The scale label displays beneath the map at the left margin. The filename label displays again beneath the scale label.
• Format 2: Generates a GeoPDF file where the map name label displays at the top above the main map at the left margin. The scale label displays beneath the map at the left margin. To the right of the scale label is the Limited Distribution label that includes the agencies approved to receive the map. The filename label displays beneath the scale label.

Advanced options

To optimize the output GeoPDF file for performance on TerraGo Mobile, click Advanced Options and choose from the following options:

• Define text to be appended to the output file name
• Require that the source image file be GeoRegistered
• Specify the version of the GeoPDF Toolbar the output file should be compatible with
• Override the coordinate system in the source image file
• Alter tile dimensions

Notes:

• For more on setting Advance Options, see Setting Advanced Options.
• If your source image file is ADRG file format, Advanced Options will only allow you to define text to be appended to the output file names.

Generating a GeoPDF

Once you have opened your project and finished modifying default parameters, if needed, you can generate your GeoPDF.

From Actions on the main menu, click Generate GeoPDF. You can also click the Generate GeoPDF icon on the toolbar.

Notes:

• You can stop the file generation process at any time by clicking Cancel at the bottom right corner of the main window.
• The file generation process automatically generates a log file which is located in the user's application data directory.
• A dialog may appear asking you if you want to view the output GeoPDF and/or the log file at the end of the process.
